It’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with my slow cooker. I love how you can just throw your ingredients in and forget about it until dinner time. I also love how soft and tender the chicken comes out when it’s cooked in a Crock Pot. This Slow Cooker Italian Chicken recipe is probably my favorite and the one we cook most.

It’s a dish that combines simplicity and robust flavor in every bite. This recipe features tender chicken breasts seasoned to perfection with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and a touch of salt. The magic happens as these ingredients slow cook in your favorite Italian dressing, infusing the chicken with rich, zesty flavors.

This hands-off approach makes it an ideal meal for busy weeknights or any time you crave a delicious, home-cooked dinner without the fuss. • Chicken breasts – Lean and tender, chicken breast serves as the perfect protein base for this dish, absorbing all the delicious flavors during the slow cooking process.
  • Garlic powder – This versatile seasoning infuses the dish with a subtle, savory garlic taste, enhancing the overall depth of flavor.
  • Italian seasoning – A fragrant blend of herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme, Italian seasoning adds a burst of classic Mediterranean flavor to the chicken.
  • Salt – A pinch of salt brings out the natural flavors of the chicken and seasonings, ensuring a well-balanced and savory dish.
  • Pepper – A staple seasoning that adds a hint of warmth and subtle heat, pepper enhances the overall flavor profile of the dish, complementing the herbs and garlic perfectly.
  • Italian dressing – I suggest using a better quality dressing. The Olive Garden Italian dressing has worked well for me.

Start by spraying your Crock Pot with nonstick cooking spray.

In a small bowl, add the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and mix together.

Trim the chicken. Then, sprinkle the seasoning mix onto both sides of the chicken and gently rub it in.

Pour a small amount of the Italian dressing over the bottom of your slow cooker. Once you have a layer covering the bottom, stop and lay the chicken down, on top of the layer of dressing.

After you place all the chicken in the Crock Pot, continue pouring the remaining amount of dressing evenly over the chicken.

Cook on low for 6-7 hours, or high for approximately 3-4 hours.

This Italian chicken works well with so many things! Here’s a few ideas of what to serve it with:

  • It would go great with the creamy pesto orzo and spinach in my Creamy Pesto Chicken & Spinach Orzo recipe. (Just skip to step number three since you will have already made your chicken.)
  • It’s perfect served over my White Spaghetti recipe.
  • Serve it on top of chopped spinach and romaine for a healthy salad.
  • Serve it over rice and veggies, such as broccoli, spinach, zucchini or squash.
  • Enjoy it over any of your favorite pasta dishes.

This chicken was simple and AMAZING!!! My 4 girls are beyond picky and every one of them – including me – loved this chicken. Would order it in a restaurant. They were literally fighting over the last piece! I made it with butter garlic baby potatoes and steamed broccoli. Smelled like a restaurant in here!

  7. Can you use frozen chicken breasts?

    1. I don’t think it’s best to put frozen ones in the crock pot. It would take quite a bit longer. I would thaw them first!
