It’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with my slow cooker. I love how you can just throw your ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest. I also love how soft and tender the chicken comes out every time. This Slow Cooker Italian Chicken recipe is probably my favorite and the one we cook the most.
It’s a dish that combines simplicity and flavor in every bite. This recipe features tender chicken breasts seasoned to perfection with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and a touch of salt. The magic happens as these ingredients slow cook in your favorite Italian dressing, infusing the chicken with rich, zesty flavors. By dinner time, you’ll have perfectly cooked, flavorful chicken that tastes like it was made in a restaurant.
This low prep makes it an ideal dish for busy weeknights or any time you crave a delicious, home-cooked dinner without the fuss. Pair it with pasta, a fresh salad, on top of rice or with your favorite vegetables for a complete meal that’s both satisfying and effortless.
INGREDIENTS
- Chicken breasts – Lean and tender, chicken breast serves as the perfect protein base for this dish, absorbing all the delicious flavors during the slow cooking process.
- Garlic powder – This versatile seasoning infuses the dish with a subtle, savory garlic taste, enhancing the overall depth of flavor.
- Italian seasoning – A fragrant blend of herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme, Italian seasoning adds a burst of classic Mediterranean flavor to the chicken.
- Salt – A pinch of salt brings out the natural flavors of the chicken and seasonings, ensuring a well-balanced and savory dish.
- Pepper – A staple seasoning that adds a hint of warmth and subtle heat, pepper enhances the overall flavor profile of the dish, complementing the herbs and garlic perfectly.
- Italian dressing – I suggest using a better quality dressing. The Olive Garden Italian dressing has worked well for me.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Start by spraying your Crock Pot with nonstick cooking spray.
In a small bowl, add the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and mix together.
Trim the chicken. Then, sprinkle the seasoning mix onto both sides of the chicken and gently rub it in.
Pour a small amount of the Italian dressing over the bottom of your slow cooker. Once you have a layer covering the bottom, stop and lay the chicken down, on top of the layer of dressing.
After you place all the chicken in the Crock Pot, continue pouring the remaining amount of dressing evenly over the chicken.
Cook on low for 6-7 hours, or high for approximately 3-4 hours.

This chicken was simple and AMAZING!!! My 4 girls are beyond picky and every one of them – including me – loved this chicken. Would order it in a restaurant. They were literally fighting over the last piece! I made it with butter garlic baby potatoes and steamed broccoli. Smelled like a restaurant in here!
This was very good and easy! I only cooked the chicken for 3 hours on low and it was still moist and sliceable and served it over brown rice pasta.

This is one of my go to, super easy and super delicious, busy weeknight dinners. I’ve served it with the spinach orzo you recommended and also with a buttery, garlic, parmesan angel hair pasta. So good and tastes like we went out for dinner. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Can you use frozen chicken breasts?
I don’t think it’s best to put frozen ones in the crock pot. It would take quite a bit longer. I would thaw them first!
I always put the chicken breasts in frozen in all of my recipes. I might increase cooking time by 45 min. but it works perfectly.
My family devoured it! It will be added to the rotation of monthly meals.
That’s awesome to hear! I’m so glad everyone liked it. 🙂

Family loved the flavor. Used frozen chicken thighs, cooked on low for 6 and turned out perfect. Thank you for sharing your recipe

Hi! I’d the chicken breast are pretty thin, how long do you think in the crockpot on high?
I think they will be done at about 2 or 3 hours. Let me know how it comes out if you make it!
I used three of the smaller chicken breasts because we did not have a whole lot of people to feed. Also, cooked it on high for about 2 and 1/2 hours and it was so tender and juicy 🤤 It might have actually been done closer to the 2-hour mark but 2.5 hours did not overdo it.
I’m glad it all came out okay! Thank you so much for sharing that!
Super easy to make! My family loved it. I’ll be adding it to the monthly rotation.
Definitely deserves the five stars! So simple. It’s so juicy and flavorful. It’s definitely now one of the family faves! Great job Meghan!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great and simple recipe. Kids and grown ups love it! This recipe is now part of our regular meal rotation each month.
I love hearing when kids enjoy a recipe! This is one of the few things both my kids like too. We make it so often lol. I’m actually making it today and throwing some baby potatoes in the crock pot as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to rate it and comment!
