INGREDIENT NOTES & SUBSTITUTIONS

Ground turkey – A healthy, high-protein base for your burgers that stays juicy with the right seasoning. I like using a 93/7 ratio mix. You want a little bit of fat for juicier burgers, so I don’t recommend any leaner than 93%.

Olive oil (for cooking) – Helps prevent sticking and adds a hint of richness when searing the patties in the skillet.

Fresh lime juice – Adds a zesty flavor that balances the smoky spice from the chipotle.

Seasonings – I’m using a simple mix of garlic powder, chipotle chili powder, salt, pepper and one of the following: paprika, Cajun or taco seasoning – whichever one you have on hand. I’ve tried using all three at different times and they all work well with the rest of the mix.

Toppings – For my kids, we just add cheese and call it a day. However, me and my husband love to add cheese, onions, fresh spinach, sliced cucumbers and avocado to our burgers. Get as creative (or as minimal) as you want with the toppings!

Line a baking tray, cutting board or large plate with parchment paper so you have a place to place your patties. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about ½ to ¾ inch thick. If it feels sticky, wet your hands slightly before forming.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once oil and skillet are warm, cook patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temp of 165°F (74°C) and are nicely browned.

PRO TIP: To save on time, try to find a side dish you can make the day before!

TIPS & NOTES

Use 93% ground turkey or lower – for the best balance of moisture and flavor, don’t use anything leaner than 93%. Any leaner might result in drier burgers.

Don’t overmix – careful to only mix the turkey mixture until just combined or the patties can become tough.

Patties too soft? – If the patties feel too soft to handle, chill them in the fridge for 10–15 minutes before cooking.

Adjust spice to taste — add more chipotle chili powder for a spicier kick, or dial it back for kids.

Meal prep — cook once and enjoy them throughout the week.
